Kalyazin City: What? Where? When?
City Kalyazin – Tver Atlantis. The symbol of Kalyazin is the bell tower of Nikolsky Cathedral (1800), which rises above the surface of the Uglich reservoir on the Volga River, formed in 1936-40, and as a result the historical part of the city was flooded. And today you can see the city streets, going straight into the water. Nothing like this in the Tver region is no more.
In fact, the old city is long gone. And at first glance it may seem that there is nothing to look at Kalyazin. But this is only at first glance. The fact is that the original tourist infrastructure is actively being formed in Kalyazin. And 2018 was no exception.
On the contrary, on July 19, the Kalyazin yacht club, which has been operating successfully since 2008, opened a farm for growing snails. Now, not only members of the yacht club, but everyone can get acquainted with the process of growing mollusks and try a variety of dishes prepared from this exotic product. On an area of 1200 sq. M. enclosed enclosures and a tasting room.
The next event was the opening by the local tour operator of the travel agency “Pilgrim”) of the Volgari Museum, which took place on August 29, 2018 at the Kalyazin pier. His expositions reveal the theme of influence on the fate of a small provincial Kalyazin and its inhabitants of the Great Russian Volga River. In the halls of the museum one can get acquainted with the development of shipping, the distribution of crafts on the Volga and the history of the creation of artificial “seas” – reservoirs. The museum entered the tourist routes for cruise and tourist groups, in particular, is an obligatory point of display of the program “Underwater City”.
And on September 9, 2018 in Kalyazin, an unusual festival with a bright gastronomic component – “Camp Kitchen” will be held (contact information: 8 48249 2 06 92). The main organizer of the festival is the administration of the Kalyazinsky district. The festival itself is timed to the heroic events of the early 17th century, when the troops of the famous Russian commander M.V. Skopina-Shuisky across Kalyazin on the Konstantinovo field was defeated by the forces of the Polish-Lithuanian interventionists.
In 2018, all tourist events in Kalyazin are held with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of the Tver Region.
Today, Kalyazin is a real tourist city, which has its own residence Baba Yagi, pottery workshop, bike club and even its own “flying saucer”. But most importantly, it has its own tourists. Last year alone, Kalyazin was visited by more than 150,000 thousand people for tourist purposes. This year, according to forecasts of the head of the Pilgrim travel agency, Elena Mikhasik, the flow of tourists will not decrease.
